The tide of Qiantang River is a natural phenomenon along the coast where a river empties into the ocean or sea and is essentially a strong tide that pushes the river upward, against the current.

Tides usually peak between the 15th and 18th day of the eighth lunar month with spectacular scenes to enchant the crowds. Waves of up to nine meters can be generated.

It’s part of the Mid-Autumn Festival, an occasion when families gather, eat traditional moon cakes, light lanterns, and celebrate good harvests, according to the state broadcaster CCTV.
